Millennials (also known as Generation Y) are the generation born between 1980 and 2000. The older half of this generation is graduating from college or otherwise making their way through the workforce. Technology has helped shape them, and this generation is unique in many ways. Health insurance is no different.
The Baby Boomers who are their parents have generally been insured by their employers. In contrast, Generation Y has learned that personal health insurance is a necessity in today’s economy. Gen Y-ers don’t expect to work for the same company for several decades. They may move, travel, switch jobs, and start their own businesses. As a result of the recession, fewer full-time jobs with benefits are available; millennials are making do with part-time jobs and internships in the meantime.
Individual health insurance plans are there every step of the way, regardless of their job status.
Also, if you have a pre existing condition you may need to purchase a pre existing health insurance plan.
