Advantages of PPOs
- With Student PPO Health Insurance you have free choice of healthcare provider.
- Healthcare costs paid out of your own pocket (e.g., deductibles and co-payments) are limited.
- You are allowed to visit any doctor you want, whether or not they are in your student health insurance plan’s network.
- You don’t even have to have a primary care physician at all if you don’t want to.
Disadvantages of PPOs
- As a Student PPO member, you’ll be responsible for more paperwork and expenses than HMOs.
- A lot of PPO plans only cover the specified percentage of “reasonable costs” for out-of-network medical treatment.
- PPO plan premiums are normally higher than those of other types of other student health insurance plans.
- You will have to pay a deductible before the coverage takes effect
