Most people attending college are aware that having student health insurance is a necessity. Is the same true of accident insurance?
A student accident insurance plan pays out a lump sum in the event of a death resulting from an accident. Since the eligible circumstances are limited, accident premiums are cheaper than those for life insurance. Some policies also cover accidental dismemberment, meaning that you will receive a partial payout if you are severely disabled by an accident.
However, your policy may not pay out if the death is deemed to be your own fault, whether it is the result of your illegal activity or suicide. Otherwise, accident insurance will help cover your debts and support friends and family. Still, in most cases, college students’ health insurance should be first priority in a limited budget.
