Does Short Term Critical Illness Insurance Exist?

Short term health insurance plans are very convenient. They allow you to be insured only for as long as you need to be. Understandably, the idea of having extra security in the case of being diagnosed with a critical illness is appealing.

However, short term critical illness insurance is rare. Look at it from an insurance company’s perspective: would you want to underwrite a policy for someone who is relatively certain that they will come down with a qualifying condition within a year or less? They would go out of business if they did that!

There may be options, but they are rare. In addition, premiums will be costly. Stick to cheap short term health insurance to protect your health, and buy a standard critical illness insurance policy (which lasts for at least five years) if you feel you need it.
