Why is Universal Healthcare Considered a Right?

Where does it say that we have a right to free medical insurance? When did we start believing that our Healthcare should be handed to us on a silver platter no matter how much or little we contributed to our society?  Where is this mindset coming from?

If we look into the recent development of children into young adults, you will notice a reoccuring pattern: the children are spoiled beyond belief. Many children go throughout their young lives having much more than their parents ever did. They don’t actually have to start spending their own money at times until they are into their late twenties. College educations are expected, and parents are almost a necessity in order for young adults to put a down payment on a house due to ridiculous prices and mortgage abuse. This creates a society of dependents that expect thigns like Health Insurance to be given to them. Not only that, but a generation of parents who have taken care of thiese children wondering what the heck are they going to do when they are gone!

People need to start taking the attitude that its time to work for what they need. The harder you work for Health Insurance the better insurance you get. Catastrophic events are an issue, and there should be protections for those who will go bankrupt from no fault of their own. But people do get sick, and catastrophes do happen. Hurricanes wipe out homes, floods kill millions of people. People get pregnant when they didn’t expect to. People get robbed and killed by fellow human beings, strangers and family alike. There is no guarantee in this world, there are only those who are stronger, mentally and physically, and work harder than others. There are those who can survive catastrophe due to strength and intelligence, and those that do not due to fear and self-doubt. It is not that these people do not deserve to live, but the circumstance in which they are in is unfavorable and they are not built for survival of that type. It is the same as being born into a rich or poor home. It is the same as being born with a genetic or physical defect. You can overcome them, but it is not fair and there is nothing you can do about it. Your unique attributes as a human being and the environment in which you are in determine whether you survive or not every day. Even the most intelligent commit suicide due to not being able to handle an environment of stress, even though they make millions of dollars! Even the most crippled can write books or generate ideas that change the world! If we start giving away Healthcare as a right, what else should we have as a right? Food, water and shelter? Television? The internet?

Life is hard work and a battle to survive. Work hard! Dont get caught in situations you should’nt be in and can avoid.

I believe in personal responsibility, but that was a little too Nietzchean for my tastes.
