Are you healthy, then you need insurance

It seems that we tend to want health insurance only when we need it. Imagine driving your car and getting into an accident. Then, at that time is when you would apply for auto insurance. What a beautiful and silly world.

Insurance by its very nature brings into play the spreading of risk amongst a large pool of people. The large group, through its insurance premium contributions insures the ones who need it.  In this manner we all take care of each other.

Health insurance is not something you get only when you get in an accident, therefore we all need it at all times. We all need to contribute our part towards each other.

We still want to choose the carrier and type of coverage as good consumers should, but we all need to have it.

Now, I understand affordability and in the hierarchy of needs, yes, food and shelter come first. I know, I know, but think of this. If we all contributed through health insurance premiums, our overall costs would come down. Health insurance would be more affordable. Even then, to the ones who couldn’t still afford health insurance, our government needs to be there.

Yes, we can do better.
