Healthcare Industry News > Wisconsin Health Insurance Costs Wisconsin Health Insurance CostsA recent student conducted in Oshkosh, Wisconsin found hospital competition may be a force in driving up health insurance costs. The study called "Wisconsin Health Insurance Costs Rankings 2008" found that health insurance costs in the area increased by double the amount for the rest of the state. Dr. Robert Kraig who wrote the study believes the cause has been overbuilding of hospitals in the state. After the construction of a second hospital in the area in 2003, health insurance costs began to climb.According to Kraig, the increase in competition leads to the building of more high-tech facilities which also causes prices to go higher thus leading to increased insurance costs. Although competition may work to lower prices in many industries, Kraig argues that does not seem to be the case with health care. Officials from one of the hospitals said the facility was designed to operate efficiently so it would save money but officials from the other hospital's parent company agree that the competition does cause a rise in costs. |
