Healthcare Industry News > John Edwards Health Care Plan John Edwards plan to improve healthcare Democratic presidential candidate hopeful John Edwards launched a television ad in New Hampshire to promote his approach towards correcting health insurance problems in the United States. The ad blames lobby groups for keeping universal health care off the table as an option and for keeping 47 million Americans without insurance. He argues that if we don’t get rid of these lobbyists we will never have health care for everyone. Although Edwards is trailing frontrunners Clinton and Obama in New Hampshire, he has been actively campaigning in the state, including scheduling town hall-style meetings to talk to voters. Edwards was, in fact, the first of the candidates to promote a medical insurance proposal. Like Clinton, he would mandate all Americans to purchase their own health care coverage while also requiring health insurance providers to spend at least 85 percent of collected premiums on health care for their customers. Currently, as much as 30% of those premiums are going to administrative costs and profit. Health insurance mandates are currently being tried in Massachusetts while New York already requires insurance companies spend a specific percentage of premiums on claims. |
