Healthcare Industry News > Improving Health Care in the United States Improving Health Care in the United StatesEvery presidential candidate has promoted his or her ideas for improving health care in the United States, now the American Medical Association (AMA) is on a trip through New Hampshire to promote their own ideas about health-care reform. However, this plan was not developed by AMA independently. They worked on it with 15 other nationwide health care organizations, including America's Health Insurance Plans. The AMA plan consists of three main elements. First, the plan calls for offering tax credits or health care vouchers to individuals who cannot afford health insurance. Either of these elements would be paid for by tax money. Second, people would be given more choice over which health plans to buy into and the vouchers/credits could be used towards either employer or individual medical insurance. Finally, the AMA wants to offer incentives to health insurance providers so they will take on high-risk patients. The plan also calls for increased insurance portability (patients can take their insurance from state to state). No candidate has pushed for the AMA's plan nor is the AMA endorsing any particular candidate but they do urge voters to keep their plan in mind when going to the polls. The AMA also calls on state legislators to implement new health insurance solutions so that a variety of approaches can be tested. |
