Discussion points at VitalOne > Health insurance options in FloridaHealth insurance options in FloridaFlorida health insurance options may seem limited, particularly if you have a pre-existing condition or if you've been denied for Medical insurance coverage recently, but you do have some choices.Florida short term health insuranceFor one, you may consider Florida short term health insurance. These plans are not meant to provide permanent coverage, but for a few months or so you'll be covered by a major medical plan. You won't even have to pay co-payments in most cases. However, the coverage is limited because you can't supplement it with additional coverage, such as maternity benefits. With short term health care insurance you won't face as many health questions because the risks involved with this type of health insurance plan are lower (the underwriter is betting that you won't need the insurance during your coverage period). Of course, once your policy is up you may not be given the option to renew it depending on the number of claims you have submitted to the health insurance carrier. COBRA or HIPAA insurance programsAs in the other states, you may be eligible for COBRA or HIPAA insurance programs even if you have health problems. COBRA is a program that allows you to continue your existing group health insurance policy even if you leave your employer. You'll have to pay a sizable premium for the privilege, and the coverage lasts a maximum of 18 months usually. HIPAA is similar, but you may only be offered certain plans and will be expected to pay higher than average insurance costs. Plus, you'll need to meet very strict requirements in order to be HIPAA eligible. One thing you don't want to do to obtain health insurance in Florida, even short term health insurance, is to lie about your medical history. You may be tempted not to reveal information that you know will either cause you to be automatically declined or that will cause you to pay higher premiums. However, you won't get very far by withholding the information. As soon as you make a claim, the insurance company will track down the missing information and will deny your claim at best. At worst, they can press criminal charges against you because deliberately lying on an insurance application is a third-class felony in the state of Florida. Talk to a licensed health insurance agentInstead of taking that type of risk, talk about your legitimate options with a licensed health insurance agent. You may be surprised by the number of options available to you. Consult a licensed Florida health insurance agent today by calling the number above.
