Healthcare Industry News > Health Care Lobbyists, Politicians Making Their Insurance Opinions Known Health Care Lobbyists, Politicians Making Their Insurance Opinions KnownHealth care reform is definitely on the minds of voters as they head to the polls for their state primaries. Almost two-thirds of Americans believe the government should make sure everyone has health coverage but not all of the candidates agree with the majority of citizens. Many of the Democratic candidates do propose plans that would give the government some say in the health insurance issue. This would most often be done through mandates requiring consumers to purchase health insurance plans from private companies. On the other hand, most Republican candidates like the current private-market system and simply want to offer tax credits or similar rebates to consumers who purchase health care. However, the candidates aren't the only ones voicing their opinions. The American Healthcare Insurance Providers is an insurance lobby including more than 1,300 firms. They are fighting back against many of the state-level proposals, even though some - such as the Democratic mandates - would be beneficial to them. The success of their efforts may be determined not only by the voters at the polls but in what the next elected officials manage to accomplish in terms of changing the medical care status quo. |
