Healthcare Industry News > Many Asthmatic Children Lack Health Care in U. S. Many Asthmatic Children Lack Health Care in U. S.Thirteen percent of children suffering from asthma in the United States either had gaps in their health care coverage or no insurance coverage at all according to a national survey by Dr. Jill Halterman from the University and Rochester in Ambulatory Pediatrics. Many of these children had health care needs that were not met and/or received no preventative care from a physician in the year prior to the study. The parents of these children were more likely to rate the health of their child as either "fair" or "poor." While the majority of these children were from low-income families and would have been eligible for government-provided health insurance, about 30% were from families who earned too much to qualify for such programs. One of the major problems for children who lacked health insurance was they often had trouble purchasing their medications. Many of these children also lacked a primary care physician - an important element in the coordination of care for their illness. Read original story in www.medpagetoday.com |
