Healthcare Industry News > Where the Candidates Stand on Health Care Where the Candidates Stand on Health Care Health care reform has become one of the hottest issues during the current race to the 2008 election season. Most, if not all, of the potential presidential candidates in both the republican and democratic camps have already spoken out about their plans to bring medical insurance to a growing number of Americans. Here are some of the strategies being promoted by candidates.
On the Republican side, tax deductions and credits are definitely big. Rudy Giuliani proposes a tax deduction of $7,500 for people without employer-provided health care. Senator John McCain is promoting a $2,500 tax credit to help families purchase health care benefits while Mike Huckabee is against guaranteeing health care and instead wants to reduce costs by limiting medical liabilities and other changes. Mitt Romney, on the other hand, promotes market reforms.
Democrats, on the other hand, have other ideas. Senator Joe Biden wants a national health care system. Both Hillary Rodham Clinton and John Edwards want to use health insurance mandates that would force everyone to purchase medical insurance to achieve universal coverage. Senator Barack Obama wants to create a health insurance pool to reduce costs while Senator Chris Dodd promotes giving all Americans access to the congressional health care plan. Representative Dennis Kucinich recommends making Medicare – or a similar problem – available to all Americans. Read Original Story on www.signonsandiego.com |
