Healthcare Industry News > Blue Cross Blue Shield Propose Health Insurance Solution Blue Cross Blue Shield Propose Health Insurance SolutionBlue Cross and Blue Shield Association, one of the largest health insurance providers in the United States, has created their own proposal to bring medical coverage to the country's uninsured and to improve the overall care consumers are receiving. At a news conference on January 23rd, Blue Cross's President voiced his belief that the company could no longer wait for the government to act on the problem. The proposal would offer tax credits to individuals who purchase health insurance. The credits would go to people who do not receive health care through an employer, whose premiums would consume a substantial portion of their income, and low-wage workers of small businesses. While the amount of the credits was not included in the proposal, Blue Cross and Blue Shield believe the credits would cost $50 to $100 million annually and would extend coverage to up to 35 million of those currently uninsured. Additionally, the proposal included a plan to create an institute that would review the effectiveness of new drugs and treatments and the insurance giant would assist states in locating individuals who are eligible for state-funded programs but who have not yet enrolled in them. |
